Should I donate to Amnesty International? If not, which charity?

While Amnesty International does good work, they get a lot of attention and big donations from celebrities and the like. You might want to go with a local charity that doesn't get the exposure Amnesty does. I don't think you are naive to care just about the UK. I'm in the US and am appalled at some of the living conditions for children I hear about and while I feel very sorry for those people in third world countries, I want to help my fellow citizens, then help the world.
