Clean out eye smudge pot?

A long time ago my friend bought me an "eye smudge" pot from Morbid Makeup, I don't think they sell it anymore...I can't even find a picture of it. Anyway, I didn't use it all but I like the pot and I'd like to clean it out and keep earrings in it. I've cleaned most of it out but there is very sticky, waxy product still stuck to the sides. I've tried soaking it in hot water and then rubbing it out with a towel but it cools and hardens too quickly...any other ideas?
