Hepatitis B vaccine?

Where I live, they recommend starting a child on the Hep B vaccination series at birth. However, we would like to wait a little while until our newborn develops a little more, instead of bombarding his system with that type of vaccination at birth. Can you start the series later? He will have to have them before school (law), so we are thinking about starting the series around 1-3 yrs of age. Can this be done with this vaccination or is it better to begin at birth? Any info would be helpful. Thank you!
