From what I've been hearing a programming or CS degree is very helpful. also, security+, N+, and the CCNA are key. I think there is quite a bit of variety withing the industry, so I'd find out what you'd be working with in your area or what some of the companies you'd like to work for use and what they require to hire. Also do some internships or get a geek squad job because experience is a moneymaker in any industry (even though geek squad sucks big time). Hope that helps :)
